AH15  Iceland From Below All year round

Highlights:
  • Lava tubes
  • Craters
  • Stalactites

Tour Description:

Available throughout the year, this tour takes you to unique sights of Iceland’s most spectacular lava tube caves and craters.

We will enter through narrow cave entrances and find they reveal extraordinary scenery of colors and lava formations. These beautiful, natural phenomena were created when the surface lava hardened and the fluid lava continued to flow in tubes underneath.

You will also see natural stalactites and many different rock formations making this nearly an indescribable experience. The caves become wide and high and in many places the floor is quite even. However, the trip can become rather difficult so we recommend you bring good walking shoes or hiking boots which are suitable for uneven lava surfaces.

Respect for nature and safety are our main concerns. There are no handrails, lights or any pre-installed tools in or around the caves.
We rely completely on the equipment we carry and that people respect our guidelines. This tour is suitable for all who can walk on uneven surfaces and at times, crawling on all four to get through narrow places.

Please noteThis tour is not recommended for children under the age of 10.

Excellent experience. Tour guide really good, giving detaled info about the cave. I was surprised that theres not 2 tour leaders......as, in the event of an incident in the cave 2 people would be needed to deal with an issue! The tour includes such a low ceiling at one point that rolling was needed! The tour would have been excellent if the speed of walking was slower and even more interesting info given along the way. Now, i would like to comment about another excursion....from Hotel Laxnes, via The Blue Lagoon....then onto Airport...........here the issue was that the pick-up time from hotel was brought forward.....so as to be 30minutes earlier. I was very annoyed to have to rush my breakfast. I indicated that the Hotel had not passed on the apparent phone message left by Iceland Excursions the day before. I phoned I.E. 2 DAYS EARLIER TO CONFIRM PICK-UP TIME. At Reykjavik I.E. office i expressed my frustration at this situation.....you should keep to an agreed pic-up time.......it is very unproffesional......and for it to occur for operational reasons (easier to pick up all people for morning collection from Hotel Laxnes....is poor).....you know many messages left with Hotel staff is NOT passed on to people....so dont change agreed times.......this is BASIC CUSTOMER CARE!!!! - Iceland Excursions: - Thank you for your comments and review. The caving tour you joined had 6 participants which is a good number for one guide. We usually add another guide or helper for 15 participant or more. - It was unfortunate that the Hotel reception did not deliver the message to you on time or at all. Since the hotel you were staying at at the outskirts of Reykjavik in the next township some 30 minute drive from downtown Reykjavik, we had to arrange this pickup time in order to keep the schedule for the service that you had booked. Any further delay would have inconvenienced other passengers booked on the same service.

You´ve to be quite fit for this tour, you should wear trekking shoes and clothes, which may become dirty and wet. There are no toilets out there or any other kind of touristic stuff. -And mind your head!!!

Had an amazing tour this afternoon, mainly thanks to our tour guide, John from Canada. He really knew his stuff - could effortlessly answer everyone's questions and knew the backboard shortcuts very well to get back faster. He even gave us a very unexpected but excellent hike too. And the cave itself was something well selected and he made sure everyone was comfortable. I hope I get him on another Gray Line tour!

This was a fascinating tour, and I really enjoyed it. The guide was knowledgeable and informative. Probably the best thing I did during my week in Iceland. A minor suggestion for improvement is the guide might mention at the beginning that the tour is quite active and the additional coveralls can become warm, so people may wish to shed their jackets before suiting up.
