AH130  Golden Circle & Glacier Lake 15 Jun 2012 -
31 Aug 2012

Highlights:
  • Þingvellir National Park
  • Gullfoss waterfall
  • Glacial lake at Langjökull
  • Geysir hot spring area

Tour Description:

Join us on an exciting journey which will take you to the source of the glacial river Hvítá.

The tour starts by visiting Þingvellir National Park where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in the year 930 AD. You will have the opportunity to walk into the dramatic structure of Almannagjá‘s fault, with its towering walls.

We proceed through fertile agricultural areas and visit the canyon of Hvítá river and its unique two tiered waterfall Gullfoss, with each tier dropping at right angles to each other.

From Gullfoss we continue along mountain road Kjölur on our way to the Glacier Lake. There we will take a boat tour and navigate around the lake in the proximity of Iceland‘s second largest glacier, Langjökull. During the tour you will be taken on dry land and given the chance to take a short stroll beside the edge of the glacier. The duration of the boat tour is about 1 hour.

After an enjoyable tour on the Glacier Lake we visit the geothermal area of Geysir and the spouting hot spring Strokkur, which ejects water columns up in the air every few minutes.

On our way back to Reykjavík we will pass by the greenhouse village of Hveragerði.

Great tour with a great guide. The perfect combination of the Golden Circle with a trip to the amazing glacier lake. It was fantastic to see a glacier that close and even touch the ice. People should notice that it is a 12 hour trip and therefore quite exhausting, but even our elderly fellow passengers made it through to end. Thank you for a wonderful day!

We took the Golden Circle and Glacier Lake tour on 11 August 2011. The continental plates, Gullfoss waterfall, and hot springs were all beautiful! How amazing to see natures massive art work. During the bumpy trip up to the glacial lake, we saw a group of running horses being herded in single file past our bus. Once at the lake, the boat tour and visit to the Langjökull glacier were more amazing than words can describe. The lake was so calm and blue, it was like gliding on a mirror. The glacier towered many, many meters over us, and made beautiful music as rushing water, water drops and ice crystals fell from its body. Our tour would not have been as nice without our very knowledgeable tour guide. During the day, she entertained us with interesting facts, stories and commentary, and was even so kind as to arrange for a rainbow to appear at the end of the day! A wonderful tour!!

Great tour! Tour guide was amazingly informed and delightful! Pick up at the hotel was extremely convenient. Sites speak for themselves: spectacular, beautiful country! The flat front to the boat for the ride to the glacier was not so good. Water came in over the front regularly and soaked the guests.
Iceland Excursions:
Thank you for your review and comments. The water coming into the boat happens on windy days unfortunately, hope this did not cause too much inconvenience for you. The inside seating area should be free from splashes.

very nice trip, very enjoy it. only one thing maybe could improve, if we could have more 15-30 minutes at Golden waterfall, it would be perfect, as i did not taste the famous meat ball... but anyway, both our trip and our guide are nice!
Iceland Excursions:
The scheduled stop at Gullfoss waterfall is now 60 minutes.
